The fifth Festwich took place this weekend at St. Mary’s Park in Prestwich. Sponsored by local rock club Rebellion and XS Manchester radio station, tribute acts from all over the country gathered to celebrate some of the greatest rock bands of all time. I’ll admit that I was sceptical about an entire festival consisting only of tribute artists; but having spent both days in the park I am thoroughly convinced and ready to get my free ticket for 2017. The inaugural Bluedot festival saw a seemingly perfect pairing of science, dance music and the all round other-worldly feel of festivals over the weekend. Taking place at Jodrell Bank under the giant Lovell telescope the festival has fledged from smaller gigs, to large-scale performances from the likes of New Order, Elbow and Sigur Ros and now to an ‘out of this world’ themed space fest called Bluedot (nod to Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space).
